The Cost of Stability:
Potential Price Tags on the Rebuilding of Iraq
A great part of the public debate on Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) focuses on the potential total costs to the US and its coalition partners for creating a new, stabilized Iraq. While it is clear that achieving a stabilized Iraq will require significant effort over several years, there has been little clarity to date on how much the effort could cost, due mainly to many political, economic, and social factors that may change over the coming years.

Equity International, Inc. is pleased to present this brief analysis of potential continuing costs for OIF. Using five basic scenarios, we examine how different factors could impact funding requirements over the next five years (2003 through 2007). Our goal is to help the public and media set reasonable expectations on the costs of achieving a stable Iraq under uncertain circumstances.
