| Kenya Crisis Recovery Fund Announced |
WASHINGTON, DC - January 2, 2008. Many of you are aware of the riots that have erupted in Kenya following the recent presidential election. According to the New York Times, over 300 deaths have been caused by the post-election violence. As is often the case, the poor are the most affected by the crisis. Many microfinance clients have seen their businesses and homes extensively damaged or destroyed in the rioting. Please read more about the crisis in the New York Times article.
The Microcredit Summit Campaign is soliciting contributions to a Kenya Crisis Recovery Fund in partnership with the Association of Microfinance Institutions (AMFI), the umbrella organization of microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Kenya. AMFI will ensure that donations will be distributed among the MFIs whose clients have been most affected so that relief is provided and people are able to rebuild their businesses and homes.
If you would like to make a contribution that will aid Kenyan microfinance clients, please visit the Campaign's donation page at https://secure.groundspring.org/dn/index.php?aid=358 , and direct your gift to the Kenya Crisis Recovery Fund.
You may also write a check payable to the Microcredit Summit Campaign and designate it for the Kenya Crisis Recovery Fund. Please send checks to:
