| Matriarch of Equity International Dies |
Panama City, Florida – December 10, 2007. Carol J. Loiry, 74, died December 10, 2007 in Panama City, Florida after surviving five major cancers in her lifetime. She was a co-founder of Equity International and a major guiding force in its accomplishments since 1995.
Her family includes her husband David, with whom she had a wonderful marriage for more than 51 years. Additional family members include her son Equity International President William Loiry, her daughter Jeanette, 3 grandchildren – Andrea, Brett, and Michelle, and 4 great-grandchildren – Evan, Amaya, Kaylee, and Tony.
Her family remembers her as a magnificent life force, which included raising a loving family, helping thousands of people through her speech and hearing profession and through her husband’s psychology practice, and helping thousands more through her work with her son in relations with the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, worldwide disaster response, and U.S. homeland security. Her life philosophy is that we are all here on Earth to learn and to love each other.
Carol was a co-author in 1982 of A Time To Live, a book she wrote with her husband David, which helped people achieve personal growth in marriage, relationships, work, and family. She had a Master’s Degree from the University of Alabama, and helped children with speech and learning disabilities in more than 50 schools in Alabama and Florida.
Carol was a pioneer in improving relations with the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, managing programs with her son William, which brought more than 1,000 business and government leaders from the region to the U.S. These efforts were a major force in developing business and friendship with former adversaries.
Through Equity International, Carol also pioneered the response to natural and man-made disasters, by helping to bring together thousands of government, humanitarian, and business leaders at conferences designed to facilitate the relief and reconstruction of the Balkans after the wars, Turkey after the earthquakes, Afghanistan and Iraq, and the U.S. Gulf Coast after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Through Equity International, Carol also pioneered U.S. homeland security after the 9/11 attacks, helping to bring together thousands of government and business leaders at Washington conferences and on Capitol Hill to facilitate solutions designed to protect us all from further terrorism.
Carol Loiry's Life Celebration will be held at First United Methodist Church in Panama City, Florida at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 16, 2007 – all are welcome.
